Spring is upon us and swim suit season is just around the corner. So, naturally everyone
wants to know how to get that beach body they can show off, or at least not be ashamed of. I mentioned last month that doing higher intensity cardio will burn more fat calories and more total calories than low intensity cardio. This month I will add in the importance of doing strength training.
Research shows that subjects who do cardio and watch what they eat lose body weight. That’s the good news. Unfortunately, the bad news is that the weight lost is fat and lean tissue (metabolically active muscle) which means they are sabotaging their metabolism. Subjects who watch what they eat, do cardio and strength training lose the most fat and also increase their metabolism which leads to faster weight loss and easier weight maintenance.
Doing both the cardio and strength training will also improve one’s body composition the fastest which will be discussed next month.
