Who΄s The Big Loser? : "Biggest Loser" update

"You are such a loser!" is not a phrase most people want to hear. However, here at Capital Fitness, there are five individuals who can΄t "weight" to hear those words. They are participating in Madison΄s Biggest Loser contest, run by NBC15 in conjunction with the nationally televised show (Wednesdays, 7 pm). The participants are working with Personal Trainers (Lauren and Jenn) here at Capital Fitness Under Brian΄s direction and have weekly weigh-ins at Meriter Hospital.
Meriter also is monitoring body composition, blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, and hip & waist measurements. You can log on to nbc15.madison.com and click on "contests", then "Biggest Loser" to see how our participants are doing!

Acceleration Training :
You may have noticed a group of teenagers working out in the gym over the past few months. Personal Trainer Kristin held a 16-week acceleration camp over the summer, working with 20 boys ages 13 to 17 on strength and conditioning. Over the duration of the camp, the boys lost a combined total of 26.6 pounds of fat and gained a combined total of 70.7 pounds of lean muscle weight! Congratulations to Kristin and the boys on all their hard work and effort! We hope to see successful programs like this continue here at Capital Fitness.

It΄s Expansion Time : An update on our gym expansion

Capital Fitness΄ 3rd floor expansion will begin at the end of October when Malcolm Marketing relocates. The third floor will include all new:

- Aerobics studio    - Yoga Studio   - Spinning Studio with Bikes   - Private Pilates Studio
- Plus: the ELEVATION day spa and salon

Elevation Day Spa and Salon will be a full service hair salon and day spa offering many treatments including facials, body treatments, massage, waxing, and much more!

The renovated lower level will include:
- Expanded Free Weight Area    - Stretching Area    - Larger Men΄s Locker room/Steam room

We expect to have the expansion completed by January 15th.
Most of the expansion will take place on the new 3rd floor and there will be very little interference with the rest of the gym. The main workout floor will not change and will stay open throughout the entire expansion process. Stay tuned for more updates!

New Programming Director :

Brenda Davenport is joining our Capital Fitness Team as Director of our new and upcoming childcare facility. Brenda is a 1999 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. She has a bachelor΄s degree in Psychology with a child/youth care emphasis. She has been married to her husband BJ for four years, and is the proud mother of her one year old son, Reece. Brenda is a former preschool teacher of over six years. She has taught for the past five years at Little Red Preschool in Middleton. She enjoys biking, boating, softball, and hanging out with her family and friends.

Brenda is extremely busy creating a fun and exciting center for your children. She has many programming ideas that your children are sure to love. She is full of energy, and ready to provide your children with a safe and inviting place to stay while you are busy working out. Feel free to ask her any questions if you see her around.

Body Comp Testing :

First lets start with what body composition is. Body composition refers to the makeup of the body considered as a two-component model: Lean body mass and body fat. Lean body mass consists of muscles, bones, organs and other metabolically active tissues. Body fat is stored energy too much of which leads to obesity and other health complications.

There are various ways to measure body composition the most common being skin fold calipers. It is a simple process where an experienced professional pinches and measures different points on the body. These measurements get put into a formula to accurately figure your body fat percentage. By measuring body composition we can more accurately measure changes and progress that occur in the body due to exercise and diet.

This is important because as you shed inches off your waist and increase that lean muscle your total body weight may not change very significantly. For example, if you lose 5lbs of fat and gain 3lbs of lean muscle your scale shows the difference is only 2lbs less but in fact your results are great! Regular scales cannot accurately measure your fitness results.

NEW CLASS : Zumba, Dancing your way to a fitter you

Zumba is coming to Capital Fitness! Come dance your worries away with the newest fitness craze that is sweeping the nation: Zumba utilizes the principals of fitness interval training and resistance training to maximize caloric output, fat burning and total body toning. This class will keep you coming back for more with its high-energy, motivating music and fun, easy-to-follow dance rhythms.

Classes will be at 3:00pm Sundays beginning 10/22
